Grace Goodwin Presents at INS 2026
[February 2026] Grace Goodwin presented at the 2026 INS (International Neuropsychological Society) meeting in Philadelphia. She shared a talk on using machine learning to differentiate Alzheimer’s disease from Behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) and a poster on how adverse childhood experiences can present with concussion-like symptoms in adulthood.
Grace Goodwin Earns Postdoctoral Fellowship at Brown
[January 2026] We are excited to share that graduate student Grace Goodwin has been selected as the next Aging and Dementia Postdoctoral Fellow at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in the Clinical Neuropsychology Specialty Program.
Katie Singsank Receives Scholarship for RP2026
[January 2026] Clinical Psychology graduate student, Katie Singsank, has been selected for a scholarship to attend the 2026 Rehabilitation Psychology Conference (RP2026). This competitive scholarship recognizes promising scholars who demonstrate strong potential for advancing research and practice in rehabilitation psychology. We congratulate Katie on this achievement and look forward to seeing her at RP2026!
President’s Holiday Village Brain Health Resource Table
[December 2025] CANE Lab’s Kim Cobos partnered with research assistants from the Translational Mechanisms and Drug Discovery Lab, Adrianna Tsao and Aryan Shah. to share brain health resources at President’s Holiday Village. The outreach focused on spreading awareness and providing educational materials to community members, supporting informed conversations around brain health and wellness.
Cynthia Sopko Elected to ASA Leadership
[December 2025] We are pleased to announce that PhD Student Cynthia Sopko has been elected to a leadership role within the Statistics and Data Science and Aging Group of the American Statistical Association (ASA). She will serve as the group's Membership & Engagement Officer, helping to foster involvement and support collaboration across the fields of statistics, data science, and aging research.
Community Health Fair at the MLK Jr. Senior Center
[November 2025] The UNLV Brain Health Department took part in the Community Health Fair at the MLK Jr. Senior Center, where Outreach Specialist Kim Cobos shared brain health resources with attendees. The event offered a meaningful opportunity to connect with community members and promote accessible brain health education.

Las Vegas Aging Wellness Expo Fall 2025
[October 2025] UNLV Brain Health Department participated in the Aging Wellness Expo Fall 2025, held at the Rio Convention Center in Las Vegas. Katie Singsank represented the department at the event, which brought together professionals, organizations, and community members to promote healthy aging and wellness across the lifespan.

Katie Singsank Successfully Defends Master’s Thesis
[July 2025] Congratulations to Katie Singsank on the successful defense of her Master’s thesis! Her project, “Examination of Factors Influencing Clinical Trial Completion Among a National Sample of Middle-Aged Adults Aging with Their Long-Term Physical Disability,” offers important insights into factors that promote retention in disability-focused health research.
Grace Goodwin Wins 2025 AAIC Student Best Poster Award
[July 2025] Grace Goodwin received the 2025 Student Best Poster Award from the Neuropsychiatric Syndromes PIA at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) in Toronto, Canada. Her poster, “Network analysis of neuropsychiatric symptoms in behavioral variant frontotemporal dementia,” was recognized for its innovative and impactful approach. This award highlights Grace’s exceptional contribution to advancing research in neurodegenerative diseases.
Grace Goodwin Defends Dissertation
[July 2025] Congratulations to Grace Goodwin, who successfully defended her dissertation in July 2025 titled “Computational Approaches to Clinical Characterization, Diagnosis, and Intervention of Alzheimer’s Disease and Behavioral Variant Frontotemporal Dementia.” Her research used computational methods to enhance diagnosis and treatment precision, advancing understanding of Alzheimer’s and frontotemporal dementia.

[May 2025] We’re thrilled to celebrate Dr. Stacey Moeller Juthapan on successfully completing her Ph.D.! Stacey has made outstanding contributions to our research community during her time in the lab.
She will be continuing her scientific journey as a Neuropsychology Postdoctoral Fellow at Palo Alto VA Medical Center.

[March 2025] Dr. Sam John recently presented at the Brain Health is Public Health event held at the Red Rock Conference Room in Las Vegas. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas is a member-driven learning community of more than 1,100 retired and semi-retired adults.

[May, 2023] Congratulations to Grace Goodwin on presenting her research poster titled "To report or not to report: A review of adolescent decision-making theories following sport-related concussion" for the Sports Neuropsychology Society’s Annual Symposium. [October, 2022] Lab members Myjae Maloy-Robertson and Denise Tanner at the Remote Area Medical (RAM) event in Pahrump, Nevada. RAM is a non-profit provider of mobile medical clinics delivering free dental, vision, and medical care to under-served and uninsured individuals.
